Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points.

However, Jurgen Klopp and his men will be a tad gutted that their advantage wasn't extended to seven points after Manchester City's 2-1 loss away at Newcastle.

A spirited Leicester side held the Reds to a 1-1 draw at Anfield, the first time Liverpool have dropped points to a team outside the top six all season.

Sadio Mane put the hosts in front within two minutes, but Harry Maguire struck just before half-time.

Leicester arguably had the better chances in the second period, but the divisive figure of Naby Keita should have been awarded a penalty late on.

It was probably Liverpool's least potent performance of the season, with defensive errors also leaking back into their game.

Even with the presence of Virgil van Dijk - who returned from illness to start - Klopp's side struggled to contain the Foxes.

The Dutchman has been imperious in 2018/19, but even he was made to look human last night.

But the former Southampton man is not getting worried and following the draw, he has issued a message to Liverpool fans about the 'nervous' atmosphere at Anfield.

“It sounded like it [was nervous],” Van Dijk admitted, per Goal.

“Nah, not to me! But, obviously, you get that feeling as well from the crowd and I think it’s not really necessary at the moment.

“But, obviously, everyone wants to win so bad and that’s what we want as well but sometimes you need to be very patient.

“The pitch was horrendous. It was full of ice, obviously, but they need to deal with that as well. We had most of the ball and then it’s difficult to break them down. At times we had our opportunities, we were dangerous, but in the end it wasn’t enough to score a goal.”

Van Dijk may have a point, but it's hard for Liverpool fans not to be nervy given their past failings in Premier League title races.

With the margins for error so slim - particularly with a team like Man City on your tail - eliminating the nervous atmosphere at Anfield when the team aren't winning will not be easy.
