The rumours circling Anthony Joshua’s next opponent have been poured and speculated on ever since he dispatched Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium last year.

After months of conjecture, it appears that AJ will finally be confirming very soon that he will be making his US debut against Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller.

After a delivery failed to turn up at AJ’s house, an unidentified delivery driver got his 15 seconds of fame by leaking the conversation that he had with the world heavyweight champion to the world.

Joshua on the call revealed: "I think we’re going to have to go to the States because I have done everything I can and everyone doesn’t want to fight, man.

"I think it’s about June time."

He appeared to confirm that the proposed April 13 date booked at Wembley is in fact off due to lack of preparation time.

"The only thing I can think is if they’re trying to make me stop training and then two weeks out they’ll say yeah, we wanna fight and I’m two weeks out of preparation. They might try and catch me dry. Other than that, in my mind we’re going to the States. It will be good though."

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the exchange when speaking to boxing channel iFL TV, and believes that the exchange might benefit the boxer’s standing in the eyes of the public.

"The first thing that I thought was it actually shows what a decent geezer AJ is.

"You’ve got the world heavyweight champion talking to this delivery guy who is recording the call.

"In fact he [Joshua] kept talking to him a bit too much. I spoke to AJ last night and said, ‘mate, you wanted to carry on the conversation!"

But what had actually gone down, and how had the phone call got leaked in the first place?

Well, Hearn revealed: "So, AJ had a delivery last night. They left a note saying tried to deliver it… bla, bla.

"AJ gets home, phones up delivery guy and the delivery guy realises it’s Anthony Joshua and starts talking to him and he records the call and puts it straight out on YouTube."

However, Hearn seems to have had a sense of humour failure at the end by threatening to reprimand the cheeky delivery driver to his employers.

"I think the delivery people should get a little call and say ‘look, this ain’t really on, is it’."

Ultimately, Joshua is going to need all the goodwill to keep the fans on side if the Miller fight is confirmed. This will mean the much-vaunted potential clashes with Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will have to wait further, however much they say that they tried to make it happen this time.

With Wilder v Fury II rumoured to be close to finalising also, Hearn and AJ are going to do their upmost to keep this fight up there in consciousness of the boxing fraternity and wider public.
