Liverpool are 14 matches away from clinching their first Premier League title since 1990.

Jurgen Klopp’s men boast a four-point gap and a game in hand over their nearest rivals Tottenham, although Manchester City - who are currently five points adrift of top spot - are still considered their biggest threat.

The Reds missed out on going seven points clear of the reigning champions by drawing with Leicester on Wednesday, triggering nerves among some of the Anfield faithful.

That said, Liverpool have failed to win on just five occasions so far this season, losing just once to Pep Guardiola’s side in their first outing of 2019.

Even so, it’s fair to say the current leaders are in control of the title race for the time being.

The Merseysiders can end their 29-year wait for a league crown through their own actions, which is exactly the mentality Klopp wants to instil among their supporters.

While any minor slip up between now and May will be excruciatingly magnified, the German claims the increasing pressure doesn’t faze him.

“I am not a nervous person, so I was never nervous before the first title,” he said, per the Mirror, in reference to his Bundesliga success at Borussia Dortmund.

“That’s how it is. Yes, experience showed me that the way I did it in the past worked. So, I didn’t change.

“Our tools to sort the situation is football.

“Yes, there is pressure. There was pressure last year, a lot of pressure when we played Manchester City away in the quarter-finals of the Champions League — and we dealt with it.

“Will there be nervous moments? Yes, for sure. But don’t make them bigger than they are, because there were nervous situations last year, two years ago, three years ago. That is part of the game.

“People are in a little bit of doubt about this and that, and I understand — we were not champions for 29 years. No one thinks like that at City, but it’s a different situation.

“The people are really desperate. Is that positive? They really want it, with all they have. But there are no guarantees and, again, I am not a nervous person.”

Liverpool still have Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea to play before the season is over, so they’ll certainly have their work cut out before the Premier League crown can be theirs.
