Tyrone Mings finds himself at the centre of another controversial ’stamping’ incident, two years after he was banned for five matches by the Football Association for a stamp on Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic while playing for Bournemouth. The 25-year-old, who was making his Aston Villa debut on Saturday, stood on the face of Reading’s Nelson Oliveira midway through the second half.Oliveira had blood pouring down his face and was unable to continue the game, with Portuguese manager Jose Gomes withdrawing his compatriot for Yakou Meite.Referee Geoff Eltringham viewed the incident as accidental and allowed Mings to escape without any punishment. However, there are many football fans on social media who believe Mings should have been shown a straight red card for violent conduct. (Watch the incident below). So, let’s take a closer look at the incident, with the aid of slowed down footage.

Mings clearly loses his balance during the coming together, so you probably have to give him the benefit of the doubt. But the way he looks down at Oliveira before landing his foot on the striker’s face has given football fans a reason to feel suspicious.

Meanwhile, graphic images of Oliveira’s injuries have now emerged and they’re certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Ouch. Get better soon, Nelson.

In fairness to Mings, he did tweet about Oliveira shortly after the match, saying he felt “awfully sorry” for the 27-year-old forward.

“Absolutely loved wearing the claret and blue today and over the moon with the clean sheet! @AVFCOfficial.” he posted. “Feel awfully sorry to Oliveira, I hope he is ok.”

Whether the FA will deem the incident as violent conduct, however, is another matter.

Having already banned Mings once before for a stamping incident, the defender can expect a lengthy ban if found guilty of another deliberate stamp.
