Real Madrid players wanted to draw Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final's

Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi will play against each other in the Copa del Rey semi-final's

Real Madrid are struggling this season.

Zinedine Zidane left in the summer and Julen Lopetegui was given the task of building on his predecessor's success.

However, he was sacked after just 14 games in charge.

Santiago Solari has since been given the role and has performed much better, but Real Madrid are still third in La Liga, 11 points off the lead.

Despite their struggles, Los Blancos are still in with a chance of winning their first trophy of the season in the shape of the Copa del Rey.

However, they will have to do it the hard way.

Real Madrid were drawn against bitter rivals Barcelona when the draw for the semi-finals were done on Friday.

Some may consider it as the worst possible draw for Madrid, with Barcelona well in front in La Liga.

However, it appears that the players do not view it that way.

A report from AS has emerged which reveals how Real Madrid players reacted to the draw.

Barcelona won the first El Clasico of the season 5-1

And, intriguingly, they actually wanted to draw their bitter rivals, rather than have the prospect of playing in the final.

The report reads that the overall feeling in the dressing room after Friday's draw is one of cautious optimism.

They are far happier about facing Barcelona in the semi-finals rather than in the final.

That is because Solari’s men think they have a better chance of beating Barça over two legs, rather than in a one-off game.

The report adds that the Real Madrid players now feel that they have hit a streak of form that gives them confidence of seeing off the Catalan club over two legs.

Real Madrid players got their wish of drawing Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final's

Interesting stuff.

Many Madrid fans probably wanted to draw either Valencia or Betis in the last four and hope that Barcelona get knocked out in their semi-final.

But it seems the club's players felt very differently.

The first leg of their tie will be played at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, with the return leg set to be played on the February 27.
