No Liverpool fan would be blamed if they forgot that Lazar Markovic was still at their club when the news of his departure came in on Thursday.Brendan Rodgers brought the winger to Anfield back in 2014 for a staggering £20million but has since failed to live up to his price tag.The 24-year-old made under 20 league appearances for the Reds in four-and-a-half years and even four loan spells couldn’t create a pathway back into the Liverpool side.To make things worse, Markovic hasn’t played for the Reds since their 2-1 victory over QPR just under four years ago.Playing no part in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, he’s also been forced to play for the U23 side this season after a permanent move to Anderlecht in the summer fell through. However, the inevitable did finally happen this time around.Markovic packed his bags and left Merseyside for South-West London, signing for Fulham in the latter stages of deadline day. However, the winger won’t embark on his new journey without saying goodbye to his former club.Taking to Twitter, Markovic wrote: “It was an honour to be a part of a club so legendary. A massive thank you to everyone in @LFC, it’s been a pleasure. Good luck.”

The Serbian also posted a picture of himself in Liverpool colours with his hands on his hips and a disapproved facial expression.

That picture alone sums up his time in Merseyside perfectly.

There’s no doubt that Liverpool fans won’t be too bothered to see the back of Markovic.

However, the supporters were quick to unite and wish the Serbian well in response to his tweet:

Markovic’s attention now turns to the remainder of this season where he will be hoping to resurrect his career and ultimately help steer Fulham away from the drop.
