Rangers boss Steven Gerrard pulled off a real coup during the January transfer window by convincing Jermain Defoe to move to Ibrox. The 36-year-old’s best days are now behind him but he still knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.Defoe put pen to paper on an 18-month loan deal with the Scottish giants and is intent on being “part of history” with the Gers."I wanted to come here for obvious reasons," he told Rangers TV, per BBC Sport. "I have always known it is a massive football club. The history of the club, as players those are the clubs you want to play for and do well at."Winning trophies was another draw, especially how well the lads have done since Steven [Gerrard] has been in."The former England international opened his Rangers account just 12 minutes into his debut against Kilmarnock. And he netted his second goal on his fourth appearance for the club against St. Mirren on Saturday.Rangers secured a 4-0 victory to keep themselves three points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.Over on social media, meanwhile, a video has emerged which will make the Rangers faithful love Defoe even more.Filmed by a Celtic fan inside a car, he says to the striker: “Defoe, you should have signed for Celtic, mate!”“Why?” a puzzled Defoe responds.“Come on, better team up here isn’t it?” comes the response from the fan.“We’ll see about that,” Defoe immediately fires back.Watch the exchange in full here…

At least the two men were pleasant to each other.

While Rangers fans loved Defoe’s response, they also appreciated the way the Celtic supporter was at least polite.

Many similar videos have ended badly, often with the person recording the footage forgetting that footballers are human beings.

However, the Celtic fan will have given Defoe additional incentive to get on the scoresheet when the next Old Firm derby comes around on March 31.
