Teofimo Lopez was close to inciting a brawl last night after the American danced and mocked his opponent Diego Magdaleno after an impressive seventh round KO victory.Lopez (12-0, 10 KOs) was coming off a sensational 44-second, one-punch knockout of Mason Menard on December 8 on the Vasyl Lomachenko-Jose Pedraza undercard in New York, and followed up with a breathtaking performance.“El Brooklyn” battered Magdaleno (31-3, 13 KOs) from the opening bell in an utterly dominant display of punching power and precision in front of a sell-out crowd in Frisco, Texas. In the final seconds of the sixth round, Lopez landed a powerful left to the head for a knockdown but couldn’t follow up as Magdaleno was saved by the bell. The seventh was short, destructive and somewhat controversial. Lopez knew he had his opponent on the ropes and wasted no time going for a finish. The 21-year-old delivered a crushing left hook to the temple which knocked Magdaleno unconscious and ended what was a very one-sided fight. The ESPN commentary team of Timothy Bradley, Joe Tessitore, and Mark Kringle were outraged that the seventh round was allowed to happen and couldn’t believe that neither the referee nor Magdaleno’s team didn’t stop the bout earlier. The undefeated phenom then sparked controversy with his celebrations as his opponent lay battered and bloodied on the canvas.

Lopez strutted away and proceeded to imitate BlocBoy JB’s Shoot dance, and then did his signature backflip in the centre of the ring.

The lightweight prospect then walked over to his fallen opponent and mocked him before jumping on the ropes to acknowledge the crowd.

Magdaleno’s brother, Jessie, who is a former super bantamweight title holder in his own right, struggled to control his frustration and attempted to get in the ring with Lopez to confront him.

Luckily, security got involved and prevented a potential brawl as tempers flared after the disrespectful actions of “El Brooklyn.”

Lopez is next expected to be in action as part of the undercard to the Amir Khan-Terence Crawford clash on April 20 and will be on the radar of many of the worlds top fighters in 2019.

The 21-year-old, clearly ecstatic with his performance was interviewed after the fight and made a bold statement to the world.

“Teofimo Lopez, whether you hate him or you like him, you’re still going to watch him,” said Lopez.

“What I’m doing right now is entertaining. 2019, we’re ready to fight for a world title. We have to work in the gym. There’s always room for perfection.”
