Arsenal have dropped to sixth in the Premier League following Sunday’s two fixtures.

Manchester United went to Leicester and triumphed 1-0 thanks to Marcus Rashford’s eighth-minute strike. That took Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side above Arsenal into fifth.

And Arsenal remain there after they were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City later in the day.

The Gunners are now three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.

It was a nightmare start for Arsenal.

Alex Iwobi lost the ball just outside his own penalty area, Aymeric Laporte crossed to Sergio Aguero and the Argentine put the home side ahead inside 48 seconds.

But Arsenal rallied and, after Laurent Koscielny equalised in the 11th-minute, they looked threatening.

And they appeared to be pretty confident at the Etihad.

That was epitomised by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cheeky skill in the first-half.

The ball was played into the striker and instead of laying it off to a teammate, he produced an outrageous pass that nutmegged Fernandinho and found Matteo Guendouzi.

It was completely unnecessary but it was something that Arsenal fans certainly enjoyed.

While it looked nice, it was all a bit pointless come full-time.

City were ahead again before half-time and Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling combined to give Aguero a tap-in.

Then, it was effectively game over as Aguero completed his hat-trick in the second-half after he punched on Bernd Leno's parry from Sterling's shot - although the ball may have struck his hand.

City moved to within two points of Liverpool with their win, while Arsenal are now playing catch-up in their quest to qualify for next season's Champions League.
