The Premier League season is reaching its climax and it is undoubtedly going to be an exciting finish to the campaign.

The race for the title looks set to go down to the wire; with Liverpool currently enjoying a two-point lead over Manchester City.

However, they have a game in hand over their rivals, and could extend their lead back to five points with a win over West Ham on Monday night.

With just over a third of the campaign to go, there have been a number of players that have stood out from the rest.

But who will win the individual accolades come the end of the season?

In his column for the Daily Mail, Jamie Redknapp has complied a shortlist of six players that are his frontrunners for the Premier League player of the year award.

And here's who he named...

Virgil van Dijk

Redknapp says that Van Dijk is his favourite for the award.

"No one comes close to Virgil van Dijk," Redknapp wrote. "He has transformed Liverpool into a rock-solid team who are favourites to win their first league title for 29 years."

Mohamed Salah

Redknapp also thinks Salah has a great chance of retaining his crown.

"Reigning player of the year Mo Salah must fancy his chances of defending the crown," he wrote. "He has followed up a record-breaking first season at Anfield by topping the scoring charts with 16 goals.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang has scored 15 goals in the league this season and Redknapp thinks he 'has to be included'.

"Aubameyang has been prolific in an Arsenal team who have struggled for creativity," he wrote about the 29-year-old.

Harry Kane

Kane is currently out with injury but has still notched 14 goals in 22 appearances this term.

"Kane remains Spurs' most important player," he wrote. "His goals have been worth six points to Spurs — more than any player — and his late strikes against PSV salvaged their Champions League campaign."

David Silva

Silva hasn't been overly impressive in goal contributions - he has six goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League - but Redknapp thinks he still warrants an inclusion.

"At Manchester City, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva have all enjoyed excellent seasons but I would argue that David Silva should be on the shortlist," he wrote.

"Now 33 and without Kevin De Bruyne alongside him for most of the campaign, he has been the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola's side."

Eden Hazard

And Redknapp's final name in the running for the Premier League player of the season is Eden Hazard.

"Chelsea may have blown hot and cold, but you cannot discount Eden Hazard," he wrote. "He is our league's most naturally talented player and is in double figures for goals and assists. With this award, timing is everything."

Redknapp then gave three names when addressing the young player of the year: Declan Rice, David Brooks and Matteo Guendouzi.
