Michael van Gerwen continued his amazing form in the BetVictor Masters on Sunday, getting the better of a disappointing James Wade with an 11-5 leg win.The Masters moved to the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes back in 2015 and MVG has picked up the title every year since. The Dutchman, who is still only 29, picked up the winners’ cheque worth £60,000, the 118th of his career.MVG, speaking to www.pdc.tv. following his latest victory, spoke of his happiness at claiming the title once more and sent out a warning that this is only the beginning.“I’m really pleased,” MVG began. “It's a great venue for me and this is a tournament I love, so I'm delighted.“I didn't play phenomenally in this tournament and there's more in the tank, but I'm hoping this is going to be the start of another good year.“The tour gets more difficult every year and I'm trying to get better all the time. You want to be strong here to start the year well and give yourself confidence, and I've done that.“James did well to reach the final. He deserves a lot of credit because I think a lot of people underestimate him.”

MVG, who had defeated Mensur Suljovic and Dave Chisnall in the quarter-final and semi-final stages of the competition respectively earlier in the day, comfortably dispatched Wade in the end following some initially close opening exchanges.

The 29-year-old averaged just under 100 on course to his victory, with Wade down at 87, and even recorded a 170 checkout against the Brit.

Victories for Wade against Joe Cullen and Peter Wright had put him in with a shot at the title.

The Machine was disappointed in his personal showing against van Gerwen, but chose to look at the positives when reflecting on the match.

“I take my hat off to Michael - he did the job and was quality,” Wade stated. “He gave me so many opportunities and I played really poorly in the final.

“There's still a lot more to come from me. I've got to the final and that shows what I've got to come.”
