Mustafa Ali has been putting on some great matches since his arrival as a full-time superstar on SmackDown Live, but his most recent match has come at a price.

Ali wrestled against Randy Orton on this week's blue brand show as part of the build-up to the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship in just over a week's time.

In the match, Orton overwhelmed Ali during the early stages, but Ali fought back, delivering a tornado DDT which resulted in a two count.

He then climbed the ropes to execute a 054, but the experienced Viper pulled him off the top rope and into an RKO for the win.

Samoa Joe hit the ring after the match and choked out Orton with a Coquina Clutch and tossed Ali to the floor before standing tall to close the segment.

After the match, WWE posted a photo onto their Instagram revealing a nasty injury for Ali, as he had suffered a black eye by the time he had returned backstage.

It's unclear as to what point in the match Ali was struck in the eye hard enough to cause the injury.

However, black eyes can usually be treated fairly quickly, so it's unlikely that he misses the Elimination Chamber PPV next weekend.

Ali, Orton, and Joe will all be involved in the WWE Championship match at Elimination Chamber on February 17 inside the chamber. The match also includes Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, and Jeff Hardy.

Ali is unlikely to come out on top and win the WWE title at Elimination Chamber, but his strong booking as of late on SmackDown could mean he'll have a great spot at this year's WrestleMania.

The former 205 Live star's stock has been rising on SmackDown since his switch to the blue brand in December.

One of the biggest impacts he's made on the show was when he pinned Bryan to win a tag team match alongside Styles against Bryan and Andrade.

He also lasted 30 minutes in the Royal Rumble, eliminating Shinsuke Nakamura and Joe along the way before eventually being eliminated himself by Nia Jax.
