Few players compare to Ravel Morrison when it comes to wasted talent.

As a teenager at Manchester United, the 26-year-old was described by Sir Alex Ferguson as "the best kid you will ever see".

It was in a conversation with Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand that Fergie made that claim and to this day Ferdinand remembers what he said.

"I was at [United] when he (Morrison) was there," said Ferdinand in 2018. "Probably the most naturally gifted young kid I've ever seen.

"Sir Alex Ferguson, I remember, he called me and Wazza (Rooney) over one day and said: 'Look at this kid, he's better than you.

"'Rooney when you were a kid, he’s better than you, Rio, better than Ryan Giggs when you were kids. This is the best kid you will ever see.'"

For various reasons Morrison never lived up to the hype at United, though, and since 2012 he's played for West Ham, Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and Lazio.

The Englishman was most recently at Mexican club Atlas on loan from Lazio and now he's completed a move to Ostersunds in Sweden.

On paper it looks like another step in the wrong direction for Morrison, but credit where it's due, he has good intentions.

In his first interview as an Ostersunds player (see below), Morrison explained that he's joined the club to "rebuild" his career and "enjoy football again".

"I've come here to rebuild myself really. I want to enjoy it and enjoy football again and win everything we can," said Morrison.

"It's exciting and I'm really looking forward to everything that's in front of me. We have a decent team, it's a decent set up and I have met all the group today and it has been nice.

"I'm just a young, humble person from Manchester. I'm hoping to come here and win everything we can and do the best I can.

"I have been at West Ham, Manchester United, Lazio. Obviously the English sides for me are the best. I was also in Mexico last season and loved every moment.

"Now I'm with you guys. This team beat my team as well, it wasn't a great day when it happened being an Arsenal fan because I wasn't linked with you then.

"But now it is all about thinking positive and looking forward to this new chapter."

Joining Ostersunds is a mature decision from Morrison, who seems to have realised that he's running out of time to resurrect his floundering career.

Ostersunds are currently sixth in Sweden's top division, the Allsvenskan, and if Morrison can fire them into contention for the European places, there could be hope for him yet.
