The German MMA Championship (GMC) provided some authentic viewing for MMA fans at GMC 18 recently, which was overshadowed by a mass, 30-man brawl, after the referee failed to spot a towel thrown in.
The incident happened as Omer Solmaz continuously pummelled a helpless Felix Schiffarth on the ground and showed no signs of letting up.
The towel was thrown in, but rather unfortunately, landed on the leg of one of the fighters, causing the referee to miss the forfeit from Schiffarth's corner.
The latter's corner appeared to know the fight was over before the referee did and in an attempt to save their guy from further injury, took matters into their own hands by leaping into the Octagon.
The incident didn't finish there as Solmaz's corner retaliated in a similar fashion by rushing the Octagon as well, sparking a farcical brawl that was more akin to the WWE as opposed to MMA.
Maybe they watched Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov?
The fight was a minute old inside the fourth round as Solmaz resigned Schiffarth to a first professional defeat in the MMA after four previous victories.
Only a split decision in 2017 has halted Solmaz thus far in his career, as the native produced a dominant performance in Hamburg.
Watch the fight in the video below. The chaos begins around 2.40.
The event was good viewing for fans of the sport, Maurice Adorf - a doppelgänger of the Notorious Conor McGregor - was also victorious on the card, defeating Ridvan Nuka to take his pro tally to 2-0.
The McGregor/Khabib style incident was a new form of publicity for the GMC, albeit a damning one, but for UFC fans around the world, it proved to be good viewing, as preparations begin for UFC 234 this Sunday.
Robert Whittaker defends his middleweight title against Kelvin Gastelum, and the undefeated Israel Adesanya takes on his personal hero Anderson Silva in the co-main.
