Liverpool and Manchester City are the two main contenders in the Premier League title race.

Although Tottenham Hotspur are lurking in third place with an outside chance, it looks highly unlikely that either Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp will be lifting the coveted trophy in May.

All in all, it makes for a rather awkward situation for Manchester United, who are having to watch their two biggest rivals contest the competition they dominated for so many years.

City are their local rivals, were nicknamed the 'noisy neighbours' by Sir Alex Ferguson and are the club trying to become the dominant force in England's third city.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are the historic rivals, hold the second largest total of league titles and inflicted United with some of their bitterest defeats in recent years.

It certainly leaves the supporters in a difficult position and seeing either team top the Premier League table will hurt, regardless of whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pushes them into the top four.

As Gary Neville described the situation back in 2014: "It's like having a choice of two blokes to nick your wife."

It seriously makes you wonder, though: who would United fans rather won the league? Aside from Tottenham, of course.

Well, that was a question that came up during the latest instalment of the 'Manchester Football Social' podcast.

Man Utd's viral answer

With the Manchester derby due to be postponed to a later date, there was speculation that United could play a major role in who wins the title dependant on the result.

And one United fan is going viral when he was asked if he'd want United to lose the derby in order to prevent Liverpool from winning the league. His answer has over 1,000 up-votes on Reddit.

"It's an absolute no-brainer for me, I'd turn up and I'd hand City the title myself," he quickly replied.

"I'd have Oasis playing 'We Are The Champions' behind me, I'd gift wrap it and I'd be on my knees to hand it to them.

"If Liverpool, God forbid, win that league then they'll have commemorative cups, t-shirts, key rings. They'll bring out a record and they'll get Barnes in to do the rap again.

"They'll bring back the last Liverpool team to win the league and they'll have that team, play this team in a 'Clash of Champions' match at Wembley.

"It doesn't bear thinking about. I swear to you man... everybody needs to get behind City."

Now, don't quote us on this, but we think he might want City to win the title.

This particular supporter isn't alone in fearing the potential reaction if Liverpool finish the season on top and there seems to be an acknowledgement that the Reds could milk the celebrations.

After over 20 years without the title, though, could we really blame them?
