Real Madrid continued to revive their 2018-19 campaign on Saturday by recording a 3-1 win away to bitter rivals Atletico Madrid in the highly-anticipated derby.

Antoine Griezmann cancelled out Casemiro's opener, but Sergio Ramos' 42nd-minute penalty and substitute Gareth Bale's second-half goal earned all three points for Real.

All in all, it was a great day for Santiago Solari's men, however they were only able to hold on to their initial lead for nine minutes before Griezmann equalised.

The French World Cup winner was played clean through on goal and kept his cool to slot the ball through Thibaut Courtois' legs and send the Wanda Metropolitano wild.

Luka Modric observed the whole phase of play from the middle of midfield and was furious with Vinicius Junior for his involvement in the build-up to Griezmann's goal.

Vinicius Jr: Real's next superstar?

Vinicius only made his senior debut for Madrid back in September but he's emerged as a real shining light in recent weeks with some very impressive displays.

The 18-year-old has scored four goals and his good form saw him start the Madrid derby ahead of stars like Marco Asensio and Gareth Bale.

Vinicius' involvement in Atletico's goal

In the 25th-minute, Real captain Ramos played a pass to Vinicius, who was hugging the touchline, but his first touch was poor and the ball immediately got away from him.

As he tried to regain control of the ball, the Brazilian teenager was out-muscled by Atleti's Angel Correa, dispossessed and left in a heap on the floor.

Correa then produced a neat through ball to Griezmann, who escaped Real's offside trap and calmly found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

Modric was furious with Vinicius after Griezmann's goal

Marca have reported that, while the TV cameras were on the referee's decision to consult VAR over the validity of the goal, Modric lost it with teammate Vinicius.

The Madrid-based newspaper claim the Croat was "visibily upset by the goal and made his way to Vinicius to shout at him and gesture clearly for him to be much quicker in moving the ball".

Their report continued: "While all eyes were on the referee's query to VAR over whether the goal would stand, Vinicius endured a telling-off from Modric for over two minutes.

"Karim Benzema soon approached Modric, who ended up assisting Bale's goal, to calm him down and tell him that the teenager had received enough criticism.

"Modric turned and went on showcasing his anger, all the more so when Griezmann's goal was ultimately confirmed (by VAR)."

It's very rare to see Modric, who won the most recent Ballon d'Or award, get angry on the pitch, especially with such a young player, but Real's number ten will be much happier now.

The Champions League holders have replaced Atleti in second place in La Liga and are now five points behind leaders Barcelona, having played a game more.
