Anthony Martial enjoyed one of his best games of the season in Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Fulham on Saturday. The Frenchman scored a fine goal - reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo’s in the same stadium in 2007 - and assisted Paul Pogba’s opener.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally released the shackles from a player who wasn’t considered a major talent by his former manager.Jose Mourinho’s desire to sell Martial looks pretty ridiculous now.Thankfully for the Red Devils, Mourinho didn’t get his wish.Martial is showing why Man United made him the world’s most expensive teenager in 2015.And, after recently signing a contract extension that lasts until 2024, he won’t be leaving Old Trafford any time soon.

Analysis of Martial on MOTD

After his performance against Fulham, it wasn’t surprising to see Martial featured in the analysis on Match of the Day.

Ian Wright conducted the analysis but he wasn’t ready to lavish praise on the 23-year-old, instead deciding to compare Martial with Alexis Sanchez.

Wright highlighted one moment where he thought Sanchez would have done better and suggested that the former Monaco player was predictable and lacked end product.

The Arsenal legend admitted that he was ‘nitpicking’ - but many still felt as though it was unnecessary to focus on the minor negatives from Martial's display.

And debating whether Martial or Sanchez will start against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday also didn’t go down well with the club’s fans.

There really shouldn’t be a debate as to who starts at Old Trafford in the round-of-16 clash; Martial is playing much better than the Chilean is right now.

Solskjaer faces a major test against the Ligue 1 club but he believes the performances against Fulham was ideal preparation for Tuesday’s encounter.

"Yes, I would have to say so because it's a tough place to come,” the Norwegian said, per the Independent.
