Liverpool fans have to be pleased with the squad that Jurgen Klopp has built at Anfield.

There’s no doubting that it’s simply a case of when, not if, the Reds land a major trophy under the German.

That could very well be the Premier League. Liverpool are currently embroiled in a battle with Manchester City at the top of the table and it looks likely to go to the wire.

There’s also the Champions League, which Liverpool’s style is perfectly suited for. Klopp will be eyeing another run to the final this season although he will hope it ends in victory instead of defeat.

One of the major reasons for their success has been the immense form of centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman is certainly the best defender in the Premier League and right now, he may just be the best defender in the world.

There really are no more superlatives to say about the 27-year-old, who has brought composure and leadership to Liverpool’s team.

Van Dijk runs the length of the pitch

One moment in the 3-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday showed that Van Dijk is ready to go the extra mile.

In the 86th minute, he cleared a Bournemouth corner. But he wasn’t done there, proceeding to burst forward to join Liverpool’s counter-attack.

The 27-year-old ended up running the length of the pitch and he was very unfortunate that Roberto Firmino didn’t pass to him for what probably would have been an easy goal.

His defending, speed and work rate were all on show in that one clip.

It actually takes him 10 seconds to run from Liverpool's area to Bournemouth's.

Liverpool had the game sewn up by this point. Nobody would have complained had Van Dijk stayed in defence, but he really wanted to get on the scoresheet.

That’s the kind of attitude that Liverpool need.

His importance to Liverpool has only heightened due to the injuries that the Reds have suffered in defence.

The £75 million fee that Liverpool paid Southampton for him is looking like a genuine bargain.
