Ronda Rousey has surpassed the one-year mark as a WWE competitor now - even though she didn't have her first match until April 2018 she made her bow at the Royal Rumble in January. She has exceeded all expectations since then, putting on great matches and showing the world how quickly she's mastered the art of sports entertainment. But Rousey isn't the only female in WWE who has an MMA-based character and background.In-fact, the original was developing in NXT some time before Rousey joined the company, and that would be Sonya Deville.A graduate of the 2015 edition of Tough Enough, Deville made her main roster debut in 2017 alongside Mandy Rose, and up until recently both have been floundering since being split from their former 'leader' Paige, to put it nicely. However the duo have received a push in recent months, even claiming a tag team victory over Charlotte Flair and Asuka, and will enter the Elimination Chamber match this weekend to determine the first-ever WWE Women's Tag Team champions. When Rousey was asked for her opinion on Deville's MMA background and how she would be able to use it inside the structure, the Raw Women's champion seemed to fire some shots at Deville."I don't know if you can really call two amateur fights an MMA background," stated Rousey."She was never really a professional, she dabbled in it. She seems like a hobbyist to me. Two of them declared that they are in it and good for them if they think they are going to really win."They kind of have their own tension between them and have a lot of inner betrayals in their own team. I don't know."We'll see how well they do, but I think that there's a lot of other teams that have a lot more solid bond than they do."It seemed like a part-kayfabe, part-shoot answer but when her partner, UFC fighter Travis Browne, responded, Ronda responded bluntly by saying, "Why? She said s**t about me getting kicked in the head. F**k her."It's prompted a response on Twitter from Deville, who has thrown shade back in equal measure.

Referencing Rousey's defeats in her UFC career always seemingly gets a great response from the WWE fans.

Obviously Rousey's stature supersedes Deville, but the debate could be had that from an in-ring standpoint, Deville is better.

The seeds have now been planted for the two to face off in a one-on-one scenario in the near future, and whilst being on different brands complicates things for now, WWE can always find a way to make it work.
