Aaron Ramsey will become a Juventus in the summer.
After much speculation, it was finally revealed on Monday that he had signed a pre-contract with the Italian club.
According to David Ornstein, Ramsey will earn just over £400k-per-week and will become the all-time highest paid British player.
Ramsey released the following statement shortly after the news broke.
“I wanted to issue a personal statement for all the Arsenal fans who have been extremely loyal and supportive," he wrote on Instagram.
"You welcomed me as a teenager and have been there for me through all the highs and lows I have encountered during my time at the club.
"It is with a heavy heart that I leave after 11 incredible years in north London. Thank you.
“I will continue to give the team 100 per cent and hope to finish the season strongly, before heading on to my next chapter in Turin.”
Juventus were not the only club chasing Ramsey, however.
According to the Evening Standard, both Manchester United and Liverpool were interested in his services, but eventually declined to make a move.
And the report explains why both clubs decided to not go through with their interest in the 28-year-old.
Of course, the Welshman’s huge wage at Juventus was a major factor.
However there were also other reasons for their decisions.
The report reads: "Jurgen Klopp is an admirer or Ramsey’s energy and penetration from midfield but with Liverpool pushing for a Premier League title challenge, he opted against adding another option to an area of the team in which he is well stocked."
As for Man United, their decision to part with Jose Mourinho in December ended any chance of Ramsey moving up north.
"United enquired about Ramsey last summer but have since sacked Jose Mourinho and were reluctant to commit significant funds until a permanent successor is found," the report continues.
Whether Ramsey would have wanted to move to Liverpool or Man United over Juventus, though, remains to be seen.
