Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria’s superb interplay during Man Utd 0-2 PSG

Manchester United v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg

In the absence of Neymar and Edinson Cavani, Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel needed all of his players to step up and be counted against Manchester United on Tuesday night.

They did just that. PSG’s players were, to a man, all impressive - especially Marco Verratti and Marquinhos in central midfield.

Two other players who made a big impact for the visitors were Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe.

Di Maria made United fans regret their decision to spend the first half booing him by producing two quick-fire assists shortly after half-time.

His first assist was for Presnel Kimpembe - and the Argentina international made his feelings crystal clear towards the home supporters in the process - while his second was for Mbappe seven minutes later.

Mbappe, who’d missed a great chance to score earlier in the match, made no mistake from close-range after an electrifying run through the middle of the pitch. (Watch that HERE).

At 2-0, the Old Trafford crowd fell silent and United’s players all looked heavy-legged.

PSG’s stars - namely Di Maria and Mbappe - decided to have some fun towards the end of the match by bringing out their box of tricks.

After Verratti dispossessed the ineffective Sanchez with a sliding tackle, Mbappe and Di Maria left the Chile international and Paul Pogba in a spin with some fantastic interplay.

Too good.

At least United fans who paid good money for tickets got to see some form of entertainment. It’s just a shame it came from the opposition.

It’s hard to see United turning things around from this position.

They must beat PSG at the Parc des Princes on March 6 by at least a two-goal margin in order to progress. A 2-0 victory in Paris would send the tie to extra-time.

But PSG are a formidable force at home and will be more than confident of finishing the job after outclassing United at Old Trafford.

If Mbappe and Di Maria can produce this level of performance throughout the remainder of this season’s Champions League campaign, PSG will take some stopping.
