Chris Eubank Jr has responded to James DeGale’s remarks about him wearing his title belt on a night out in London by stating that he would do it again were he to beat DeGale next Saturday night.

After his defeat of Ronald Quinlan in 2017, Eubank’s sported the IBO World super-middleweight belt until the early hours of the morning.

DeGale, however, was less than impressed by the stunt, and claimed that Eubank needed to nurture a sense of reality.

“It is not recognised as one of the four major world titles,” said DeGale.

“I once saw him walking around a central London nightclub with it wrapped round himself.

“He was in Libertine nightclub walking about with the IBO belt on, he was parading it around like he was the super-middleweight champion of the world, he is mad.”

However, ‘Next Gen’ has insisted that he would do it all again were he to prevail at the O2 Arena.

Eubank Jr said: “He didn’t bump into me, he would have seen it on social media. I didn’t see him out that night," per The Mirror.

“But 100 per cent I would do it again.

“Listen, you fight for a belt, you win a belt, why not take it out with you on a night out?

“Everyone has just watched you fight, they want to see it, they want to take pictures and hold it.

“That’s what being a people’s fighter is, a people’s champion. There’s nothing wrong with that.

“The boxing belt is one of the greatest achievements you could have in sport and when people see that belt they get really excited."

“It’s a great belt, there have been many world champions and many of the world’s best fighters have held that belt, and still do today.”

The belt will be on the line for their clash next week and Eubank believes this is the start of an exciting period in his career.

He added: “I’m in my prime right now.”

“I have the success, the financial stability, but in terms of achievements, I haven’t achieved everything I want to.

"This fight here puts me back in a position to be able to challenge for those world titles, those big fights, possibly go over to the States and campaign there now I’m with PBC and Al Haymon.

“There’s a long road ahead.”
