Anthony Martial & Jesse Lingard could both return from injury in time to face Liverpool

Cardiff City v Manchester United - Premier League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first defeat as Manchester United boss last Tuesday against Paris Saint-Germain.

The successor to Jose Mourinho went into the Champions League tie with high expectation after 10 wins in his first 11 games in charge of the Red Devils.

But after the game, the gap in quality between United and one of the world's finest teams was evident for everyone to see.

Kylian Mbappe, Thiago Silva, Dani Alves, Marquinhos and Marco Verratti were simply too good and too streetwise for Solskjaer's men.

However, United were handed a pretty significant disadvantage halfway through the game when they lost both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial to muscle injuries.

The two forwards are key to Solskjaer's playing style, which relies on lightning-quick pace and pressing from the front.

Both players will miss tonight's FA Cup fifth-round clash against Chelsea and it was initially feared that they could miss up to three weeks in what is a crucial part of the season.

But the Mirror are reporting that both forwards could make speedy returns from injury to help Solskjaer's cause.

The paper state that at least one of Martial or Lingard will be fit for Sunday's game at home to Liverpool and it's hoped that both will be available for the trip.

Martial & Lingard

Against Jurgen Klopp's high-octane side, Martial and Lingard would be a huge boost in a game that could have a huge bearing on United's chances of finishing in the top-four.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata are unable to match the pair athletically and United's potency in attack is heavily reduced without them.

Marcus Rashford will likely have to deputise on the wing against Chelsea tonight, with Lukaku set to lead the line.

The Englishman has thrived as the centre-forward under Solskjaer, but can be just as dangerous coming off the left-hand side.
