Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder II is not off just yet, according to Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel.

Fury today confirmed his new £80 million deal for his fights to be shown on ESPN, and it appeared to throw a spanner in the works when it came to conversations between the two camps about a rematch.

Wilder’s deal with Showtime and Fury’s deal with Top Rank/ESPN makes it difficult to arrange the rematch as it would require shared broadcasting between the two companies for the fight to go ahead.

However, Finkel remains confident that the fight can still go ahead and is keen to continue negotiations with Fury’s team.

“No, not so. The Top Rank / ESPN deal doesn’t necessarily mean the Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury rematch won’t happen,” Finkel told World Boxing News.

“Wilder v Fury II is the fight we want to make. I will discuss with Frank Warren to make the fight happen,” he added.

When the WBC ordered a rematch between Wilder and Fury, it seemed inevitable it would go ahead, with Fury keen to prove a point after the controversial draw in December. Now over a month later, the rematch looks somewhat unlikely.

They were originally set to fight on May 18th, but with that now being just under three months away and there being no agreement, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that the fight will be on that date, if it goes ahead at all.

Fury has plans to fight at least twice in America this year, but neither of them may be against Wilder.

Other avenues Fury could go down include fighting Dominic Breazeale and Dillian Whyte, with neither having TV deals that would cause a breakdown in talks between the two camps.

Whereas Wilder will continue to pursue a fight with Fury, as options for the American are going to be hard to come by, especially with Anthony Joshua already having announced a fight with Jarrell Miller in June.
