Xherdan Shaqiri picks his World XI, including two Liverpool players

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool - Emirates FA Cup Third Round

Xherdan Shaqiri didn't have the opportunity to face his former side Bayern Munich in the Champions League as he was left on the bench during Liverpool's 0-0 draw at Anfield.

The Swiss international will be hoping to have some say in the second-leg when his current club travel to Munich for the second-leg on March 13.

Shaqiri actually won the Champions League with the German club in the 2012/13 season during his two-and-a-half year spell in Bavaria.

And he explained how it’s actually the last-16 tie he wanted.

“I was very happy because I wanted to play against Bayern Munich, against my old teammates and my old team. I’m looking forward to the game,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

"It was an amazing time [at Bayern]. Two-and-a-half years I was there and it was amazing; we won a lot of titles, we won the Champions League. We had the best team Bayern Munich had.

“It was an amazing feeling to win so many trophies. I had many great memories there, I will never forget them. I’m really looking forward to going there and trying to win the game in Munich with my team.”

Shaqiri also appeared on German TV show Sport1 ahead of the first-leg and was asked a rather tough question.

Can you name your World XI?

Shaqiri was allowed to pick any player currently playing and this is what he went for:

Interestingly, Shaqiri opted to pick three players that Liverpool are facing in the Champions League in the form of Manuel Neuer, Thiago and Robert Lewandowski.

It’s certainly an incredible XI and Liverpool duo Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk will no doubt thank Shaqiri for their inclusion when they next see him.

But Mohamed Salah might be having a few words.

While the Egyptian will understand Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo being included, he would have hoped to get the nod ahead of Lewandowski.
