Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn't have asked for a better response from his men to last week's disappointing 2-0 loss against PSG in the Champions League.

The United caretaker boss passed yet another test in his audition for earning the job on a full-time basis by knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup on Monday.

Many questioned whether the Norwegian was able to help his team bounce back from their first loss since he took over. However, the questions were soon answered - potentially at the expense of Maurizio Sarri's job.

One player who yet again flourished on the pitch for United was Paul Pogba. The Frenchman's transformation under Solskjaer has made the £89m the club paid for him look a bargain.

Pogba was awarded man of the match at Stamford Bridge after playing a part in both goals that earned United a 2-0 win (one goal and one assist).

Another player fans piled praise on after the result was former Chelsea man Juan Mata.

Featuring at the head of a midfield diamond, the Spaniard relished the opportunity to play in his preferred number ten role.

When asked about Pogba's influence on the pitch, Mata insisted he had all the traits you could want in a midfielder.

He said: "He's very, very complete. He's got physique, he's got quality, he's got a pass, he can go box to box. He's one of the best. Today he showed why.

"He assisted the cross for the first goal, scored the second one. Even in the second half, 80, 85 minutes he was still defending, going forwards."

Despite fellow Spaniard David de Gea not starting between the sticks, United still managed to keep a clean sheet thanks to the admirable efforts of their trusty number two, Sergio Romero.

But Mata still says it was a tough test for Solskjaer's squad.

He continued: "It's never easy to come to Stamford Bridge, to win against Chelsea, to not concede any goals, to play some good football.

"I think it was a very good evening for us and gives us a lot of confidence for the next games."
