This time last year, UFC fans didn't know that they wanted to see Conor McGregor take on Donald Cerrone inside the Octagon.

However, now that both fighters have started talking about a possible fight, MMA fans around the world can't wait to see the two square off.

A date for a clash between McGregor and Cerrone is yet to be announced, but we may have received an indication as to when this date could be.

Speaking on his Instagram account, The Cowboy gave his fans an update on his fighting future, providing a picture of him training with an interesting caption.

The caption read: "April 13 or July 6th 🤷🏼‍♂️ just waiting to 🖋📑."

What many UFC fans have taken from this post is that Cerrone could fight against McGregor on either April 13 at UFC 236 or July 6 at UFC 239, which is also expected to be International Fight Week.

Now it's a case of both fighters agreeing on one of the two dates. Neither show really has a standout main event, as UFC 236's biggest fight is  Kelvin Gastelum vs Israel Adesanya for the interim UFC Middleweight Championship.

Both of these dates fit perfectly with Notorious' current suspension timeline, which was issued to him by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his involvement in the brawl after his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

McGregor is eligible to return to fighting in early April, meaning he would be free to fight again on UFC 236 if he wishes, or he could wait until later in the year.

Talks of a possible McGregor vs Cerrone fight gained momentum at UFC Brooklyn when The Cowboy achieved a knockout win over Alexander Hernandez.

After the fight, Cerrone called out McGregor for a fight, which resulted in The Irishman responding on Twitter by saying he’d be glad to share the Octagon with the longtime UFC veteran after his performance at the event.

McGregor and Cerrone have had verbal run-ins with each other at press conferences in the past as well, so it will be interesting to see how they interact as opponents.
