After a couple of 0-0 draws in the Champions League on Tuesday, the competition returned with a bang on Wednesday.Over in Germany, Manchester City came from 2-1 down with ten men to win 3-2 against Schalke. And it was equally as dramatic at the Wanda Metropolitano. It was a tense first-half with the only talking point being VAR’s decision to overturn a penalty award for Atletico Madrid.Diego Costa was brought down by Juventus’ Mattia De Sciglio outside the box but referee Felix Zwayer pointed to the penalty spot.A little consultation and the decision was overturned.VAR was called upon once again in the second half when Alvaro Morata thought he’d opened the scoring. However, replays showed he had just nudged Giorgio Chiellini and the goal was ruled out.Eight minutes later, though, at Atleti were finally ahead through Jose Maria Gimenez. The ball bounced around following a corner and the centre-back finished to send the Wanda into ecstasy. But football fans noticed the behaviour of Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci during the goal. The defender went down feigning injury after challenging for the ball with Gimenez. With Bonucci holding his face, the ball then hit him rebounding to his opponent, who finished.Bonucci looked on in horror and, as soon as the ball went in, started rolling around on the floor claiming to be hurt.He then stayed down as Atleti celebrated their goal but even with the help of VAR, it wasn't ruled out.

BONUCCI'S BEHAVIOUR VS ATLETI

Take a look:

The truth is, if Bonucci had just been stronger and stayed on his feet instead of trying to con the referee, he probably would have prevented the goal.

And football fans believe a lovely bit of karma had been served.

Things got even worse for Bonucci and Juve five minutes later.

Atleti’s other centre-back, Diego Godin, managed to squeeze the ball home at the back post to give Diego Simone’s side a 2-0 win in the first-leg.

They will feel they now have one foot in the quarter-finals ahead of their visit to Turin.
