AS Roma have contacted Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri about becoming their new manager for next season, per Sky Sports.

Current manager Eusebio Di Francesco has struggled in 2018/19 in the Italian capital, with Roma currently fifth in the Serie A table.

As for Sarri, he's not been able to implement his philosophy at Chelsea so far and appears to be close to getting the sack.

According to Sky Sports, senior figures at Chelsea held a meeting this week to discuss Sarri's future at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were thrashed 6-0 in their last Premier League game away at Manchester City, before being eliminated from the FA Cup by Manchester United on Monday evening.

Sarri's Chelsea are also outside of the Champions League places in the Premier League table, placing further strain on his position.

Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc have been two names linked with the Chelsea job so far.

A return to Italy for Sarri may be just what he needs after a tumultuous stint in England.

His brand of football was a huge success with Napoli and it seems to favour the tempo and style of Serie A.

Di Francesco is unlikely to last the season at Roma, especially after their 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia.
