Chelsea are through to the last 16 of the Europa League following a 5-1 aggregate victory over Malmo.Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Maurizio Sarri’s side made a tentative start at Stamford Bridge on Thursday before putting their foot down and scoring three second half goals.Olivier Giroud, Ross Barkley and Callum Hudson-Odoi grabbed the goals to relieve the pressure on Sarri. The Italian’s position has come under close scrutiny following a string of disappointing performances. Not only that, but he’s faced questions surrounding certain tactical decisions.A continuing debate concerns Jorginho, whose arrival from Napoli has resulted in N’Golo Kante being shifted from his position in front of the defence.Unfortunately for Jorginho, his form has dipped just as Chelsea’s season started to unravel, meaning he’s been on the receiving end of a great deal of criticism in recent weeks.

Boos when Jorginho he came on

The fact that he’s still yet to record an assist for Chelsea doesn’t help and a handful of supporters made their feelings known by booing the midfielder when he replaced Barkley in the 76th minute against Malmo.

Jorginho didn’t appear overly concerned, giving a wry smile as he entered the pitch.

Sarri was asked about the reaction from Chelsea fans to Jorginho’s introduction when he spoke to the media at full-time.

In Sarri’s eyes, Chelsea’s slow start served to emphasise the importance of Jorginho’s role, something he wants the fans to understand more.

"I think that in the first 30 mins, we understood why Jorginho is very important for our play,” Sarri responded, per Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella.

“We were in trouble to exit our half from pressing.

“With Jorginho it is easier, I think. I hope our fans understand Jorginho is an important player.”

A very measured response from Sarri. It’s clear he has his own vision for Jorginho, and he isn’t going to move away from that.
