The wages that footballers earn has increased dramatically in recent times.

Due to the amount of money that is in the sport, football clubs are ensuring they get the players they want by offering them astronomical pay packets.

Take Alexis Sanchez, for example.

Throughout January 2018, it looked as if the Chilean international would move to Manchester City.

That prompted Manchester United to act, offering him a ridiculous £350,000-per-week to ensure that he joined them instead.

But, these moves don't always come off. Again, Sanchez is the perfect example.

Despite being the highest paid player at Man United, he has struggled during his time at the club.

He's scored just five times in 38 games and no longer finds himself as a regular.

Predictably, he is costing his club a bomb, having earned £10,813 per-minute played in the Premier League this season.

That is the most out of every player at the club.

But who earns the most money per-minute from every other Premier League club?

TheSportsman have looked at which player for each club has earned the most money per-minute this season.

To be eligible, players must have played at least one minute of Premier League football this campaign.

That means players such as Danny Drinkwater, who hasn't played a single minute for Chelsea in England's top tier this season, have been left out.

So without further ado, let's take a look at the players who are costing their players a lot while giving very little...

*This graph is correct as of February 22

The name that immediately stands out is Papa Souare.

The Senegalese international has played just one minute this season; against Fulham on the first day of the campaign.

He has only been injured for 10 games this season, meaning he's just badly out of favour.

His £30k-per-week salary means he won't be that concerned about being a fringe player.

Jermaine Defoe is no longer at Bournemouth, having moved to Rangers in January, but he earned a handsome £98,759 per-minute played.

Another player to leave their club on loan in January was Georges-Kévin Nkoudou, but he still cost Spurs £218,750 per-minute.

Daniel Sturridge is Liverpool's most costly player, having earned £12,381 per-minute played.

On the other end of the scale, Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers both deserve praise.

Leander Dendoncker is Wolves' top earner having earned £1,949 per-minute, while Florian Andone has earned £1,948 per-minute at Brighton.
