La Liga matches will be shown live on ITV4 from this weekend onwards after the broadcaster announced a deal that runs until the end of the season.

Their coverage will start on Sunday with Levante v Real Madrid and ITV will continue to show one match a week until May, along with a midweek highlights programme.

The deal is great news for football fans, who will be able to watch the action from one of Europe's top leagues on a free to air channel.

Reacting to the agreement, Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport, said:

"This is good news for football fans who will be able to see on free to air television some of the world’s best players in action for some of the world’s biggest clubs in a league known for its high levels of skill and entertainment from now until the end of the season."

News of ITV picking up the rights has come out of the blue and it's believed that La Liga matches will also continue to be shown on both Eleven Sports and Premier Sports.

THE BEST ACTION

Looking ahead to the rest of the campaign and there are some big matches for fans to look forward to.

On March 2, Madrid host Barcelona in the second El Clasico of the season. It's the league's biggest fixture and ITV4 will show it live on Saturday night.

As well as offering coverage of arguably the biggest rivalry in football, weekly games and the highlights programme will ensure fans in the UK can keep up with the title race.

Barca are currently at the top of the table, but second-placed Atletico Madrid will hope to close the seven-point gap while Real, who are nine points behind, aren't out of the running yet.

It will surely be an exciting finish to the La Liga campaign and thanks to ITV, fans will now be able to keep up.
