The fallout from October's UFC 229 event still continues to this very day despite official suspensions being handed out.Conor McGregor received six months, Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was handed a nine month ban and his cornermen Zubaira Tukhagov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov have to sit out for a full year. With Khabib though stating he will sit out until November as he shows solidarity towards his suspended team-mates, it created a problem for the UFC when it came to their 155 division.Everyone rightly assumed that an interim title would be created in Nurmagomedov's absence, and the early rumours suggested it would be Donald Cerrone against Conor McGregor for the belt. But that won't be the case, and even though it would've made the most money perhaps choosing the number nine-ranked in the division to be in a title match would be the wrong move.Instead a bout has been made between Dustin Poirier and Featherweight champion Max Holloway, who will look to become a two-weight UFC world champion.

Many have complained at the fact that top-ranked Tony Ferguson has been seemingly overlooked following his convincing victory at UFC 229 over Anthony Pettis.

However Dana White confirmed that Ferguson turned down the opportunity to face Holloway for the interim belt, Ferguson himself tweeted that he can 'make 145', hinting that he may make a venture into the featherweight division in the near future.

The winner of the interim title may not even be the one to face Khabib upon his November return, as it will be decided at UFC 236 in Atlanta on April 13, giving plenty of time for the winner to defend the title in the summer, injury depending.

Holloway and Poirier have fought once before in what was Holloway's first fight under the UFC banner back in 2012, Poirier the victor via submission.

Both have come on immensely since then though, with Holloway on a five-year, 13 fight winning streak, but Poirier will be a big test.

You just know that 'The Eagle' will be watching on with intent though as he looks to reclaim his division in late 2019.
