Lionel Messi scores magnificent hat-trick for Barcelona away at Sevilla


Of all the clubs Lionel Messi loves playing against, Sevilla rank right at the top of the list.

The Barcelona maestro had scored a remarkable 33 goals in 34 games against the Andalusian outfit prior to Saturday’s La Liga fixture at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

And it took him 26 minutes in the latest fixture between the two clubs to make it 34 goals in 35 games.

Messi has scored many fabulous goals against Sevilla down the years but his latest will go down as one of the best.

The Argentine forward isn’t known for scoring powerful volleys, but he slammed a first-time rocket off his legendary left foot past Tomas Vaclik to level the scores following Jesus Navas’s opener four minutes earlier.

That was the 26 goal in La Liga alone that Messi had scored against Sevilla - a Spanish top-flight record for most goals against a specific opponent.

Messi has scored 33 goals this season but that might rank as the best.

Messi then made it 2-2 with 25 minutes left to play, following Gabriel Mercado's goal on the stroke of half-time, with another magnificent goal - this time using his right foot.

Messi then completed his hat-trick, sealing the victory for Barcelona in the process, with a brilliant dinked finish in the 85th minute.
