Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has barely put a foot wrong as Manchester United manager.

Barring the home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and unexpected draw with Burnley, the Red Devils have maintained a 100% record since Jose Mourinho's sacking in December.

The rejuvenated team hasn't been phased by top-level opposition either, claiming the scalps of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea during the first three months of the new era.

However, Solskjaer's side are facing some of their toughest tests of the season in the coming days, welcoming Liverpool to Old Trafford before their trip to Paris upon the turn of March.

Reports have suggested that Ed Woodward is remaining patient with his managerial plans but there can be little doubting the importance of the next few games for Solskjaer's chances.

Solskjaer's Man Utd success

His influence has been so impressive that the Norwegian will almost certainly be in contention, although coaches like Mauricio Pochettino are still on the lips of United chiefs.

Nevertheless, according to the Mirror, it would appear that Solskjaer has already would won over a very important figure at the 'Theatre of Dreams.'

That's none other than his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who has served as a real inspiration for the on-loan Molde manager this season.

Ferguson wants Solskjaer appointed

It's revealed that Ferguson has told close friends that Solskjaer should be given the job 'straight away' and has been impressed with his management for three reasons.

The report reads: "He’s told friends if it was his decision he would be inclined to give Solskjaer the position straight away with the club clearly back on track.

"Ferguson has been impressed at Solskjaer’s emphasis on traditional club values, a return to the club’s attacking DNA and bonding a dressing room that had become disenchanted under Mourinho’s toxic final months at the club.

"And he’s delighted that United’s back-room team also includes Michael Carrick and Mark Dempsey – both former players at the club."

It's pretty hard to argue with Ferguson, to be fair.

And it seems the United hierarchy are feeling similarly, with the Mirror's report going on to say that Solskjaer is the leading candidate regardless of whether they make the top four or not.

It's a massive vote of confidence for a coach who wasn't really expected to assume interim charge, never mind succeed and be appointed full-time.

Obviously, there is still a long way to go before Solskjaer is unveiled as permanent manager but it seems that it would take something spectacular for him to miss out.

You're in a pretty strong position when Ferguson wants you appointed as soon as possible.
