Liverpool missed a golden opportunity to beat their bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday.Man United were already under-strength going into the game, with Nemanja Matic suffering an injury in the lead up to the game. And, remarkably, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost three more of his starting line-up in the opening 45 minutes.Ander Herrera was the first to go, limping off after 21 minutes.Juan Mata then followed four minutes later and, Jesse Lingard, Mata's replacement, was also forced off with injury just before half-time.But that wasn't the end of United's injury problems.Even before Herrera went off with injury, Rashford seemed to have an ankle problem after a challenge with Jordan Henderson. But he soldiered on and managed to complete the game despite being nowhere near 100%.Michael Owen caused controversy at half-time when he said Liverpool should deliberately kick Rashford in the ankle to try and injure him further."If I was Jurgen Klopp, in that dressing room at half-time, with Manchester United not being able to bring on another substitute, I’d be saying, ‘right, first person, first opportunity, go and kick Rashford on the ankle that he’s been limping on in the first half,” Owen said.Listen to his comments below:

A controversial statement from Owen, and it's no surprise that football fans grilled him for his comments.

Owen has now taken to Twitter to address his comments, saying everyone in uproar over his comments should 'get real'.

"Hadn't realised there were so many angels here on twitter," he said. "For everyone in uproar over my comments yesterday, get real.

"As an ex-player I am employed to give my views and insights into what happens at football clubs all over the land."

Owen then tweeted again, saying he did not advocate Rashford suffering a serious injury.

"Nobody was advocating giving Marcus Rashford a serious injury but with 3 subs already used if his ankle was so uncomfortable he couldn't continue then of course that would be discussed in every changing room in the land," he continued.

It seems Owen is not backing down.
