Chelsea are not planning to punish Kepa Arrizabalaga after the Spanish goalkeeper refused to be substituted during Sunday's Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

In the final few minutes of extra-time, Kepa appeared to pull up with an injury which saw manager Maurizio Sarri call down Willy Caballero from the bench.

Caballero is something of a penalty-saving specialist, so it made sense for Sarri to send on the Argentine with a shoot-out looming.

But Kepa refused to leave the pitch and was seen angrily gesturing to the sidelines that he didn't want to come off. David Luiz tried to convince him to respect the decision, but he wouldn't.

Kepa stayed on the for the remainder of extra-time and the penalty shoot-out, which Chelsea lost and the 24-year-old should have done better with a few of City's attempts.

Sergio Aguero's penalty, for example, was pretty tame yet managed to squeeze under Kepa's body to find the bottom-right corner.

Chelsea fans have since called for Kepa to be dropped and there's a good chance he will be for Wednesday's game against Tottenham in the Premier League.

An apology to the club's fans, players and Sarri wouldn't go amiss either, because what he did was simply unacceptable.

Former Chelsea Women striker Eniola Aluko made that very point on Twitter after the game as she slammed Kepa and said she would have "dragged" him off the pitch.

"Everytime [sic] I watch #KepaGate it makes my blood boil," wrote Aluko. "This is why coaching will not be for me.

"I would have run on the pitch and dragged the boy off myself (by his ears). The absolute disrespect of him. Feel sorry for Sarri. Kepa should sit the bench now and eat humble pie.

"Furthermore apologise to the fans, manager, teammates (especially Caballero) and club as soon aa [sic] tomorrow morning."

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will drop Kepa against Tottenham, but there's no doubting that Sarri will want to start Caballero to make a point.
