Nottingham Forest’s results have been slowly improving since Martin O’Neill replaced Aitor Karanka last month. The 66-year-old, who helped Forest win back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980, has only suffered defeat in two of his opening seven games in charge of the Nottinghamshire outfit. And on Monday evening he led Forest to one of his most impressive results so far: a 1-0 win over Derby County at the City Ground.Forest subsequently close the gap on seventh-placed Derby to just one point following their latest victory - although the Rams have a game in hand - and a late push for the play-offs remains an outside possibility.“It's all to play for,” O'Neill was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail when asked if he is looking at the play-offs now. “The win naturally gives the players a lot of confidence and I think every victory is terrific, so we'll see where we go. Let's give it everything we've got.”

Derby boss Frank Lampard, on he other hand, bemoaned his side conceding the only goal of the game in just the second minute, as well as their quality upfront, as they slumped to a third successive defeat.

“It was the deciding factor of the game in the first 70 seconds,” Lampard said. “It wasn't a great foul to give away and then we didn't deal with the ball into the box on two or three occasions.

“Yes, we're missing players through injury, but at the same time with the quality we have in the squad, it should be better than it what was today. We have to go back to basics.”

Lampard found himself in direct opposition to one of his old Premier League rivals on Monday evening.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, who also enjoyed a spell with Forest during his illustrious career, reunited with O’Neill after accepting the opportunity to become the club’s assistant manager at the end of January.

Although Keane might be a little older now - he turned 47 in August - the fiery Irishman hasn’t exactly mellowed much since hanging up his boots.

Put it this way: unless you’ve got a death wish, it’s best not to get on the wrong side of the ex-midfielder.

However, football fans on Twitter reckon Lampard told Keane to “get some f****** balls” midway through the second half at the City Ground.

And here’s how football fans on social media have reacted…

Did he really insult Keane, though?

The footage is hardly conclusive. For starters, Keane isn’t even looking at Lampard when the former Chelsea star is shouting.

Lampard could easily have been talking to somebody else in this situation, but the camera angle makes it appear that he’s shouting directly at Keane.

That’s surely a more likely scenario, no?

Lampard may have been frustrated in that moment, with his team trailing 1-0, but it’s hard to imagine he would have been foolish enough to front up to Keane like that.
