Broadcaster Sky Sports have accidentally leaked footage of Eddie Hearn openly criticising Saturday’s bout between James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jnr to presenter Adam Smith.

Whilst the cameras sat idle preparing for the arrival of heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, Hearn spoke candidly to Smith about the fight where DeGale lost the IBO super-middleweight title fight to Eubank Jnr.

Hearn, who was keen to show the bout through provider Matchroom Boxing began the tirade by saying to Smith: “Thank God we didn’t do that Saturday, we would have got rinsed.”

Smith responded: “Oh God, yeah, yeah, terrible.”

Hearn then slammed the fight, stating: “It was so bad.”

DeGale was below his best in Saturday’s loss and is now expected to retire, but Sky’s Smith tore into the veteran fighter, saying: “It was terrible, I didn’t realise how bad he’d be, DeGale.”

Before this on-air criticism last night, DeGale was clear in his opinion that he did not perform on the night, but feels his career has lived up to expectations.

"I've left my mark in boxing. Olympic gold, two world titles, but Chris performed well. I just didn't do enough but when you're in there with wild punches.

"I'm going to have to go back and watch it. I just didn't do enough.

"I just didn't do enough. I'm going to go back, talk to my team, my family, but I'm pretty sure. I've been to the heights in boxing, I'm the history man; if I call it a day now, that's nice."

It is not clear whether Hearn was upset due to missing out on the promoting rights, but his conversation to Smith was clear that he was not impressed.

What made the situation between Hearn and Smith worse was that unbeknown to them, Sky’s cameras had started to roll with the arrival of Joshua.

The candid conversation and negativity between Hearn and Smith was being shown live to the broadcaster's audience on YouTube – with approximately 20,000 fans watching the tirade.

DeGale has not publicly commented on last night’s blunder, but it is very much ‘watch this space’ as the word gets out in regard to Hearn and Smith’s comments.
