Tyson Fury's co-promoter Frank Warren says that broadcaster ESPN are at fault for his client's heavyweight rematch bout with Deontay Wilder being called off.

The pair were due to face each other once more after the initial fight back in December which took place in Los Angeles ended in a draw.

Mancunian Fury was knocked to the canvas in the closing round of the fight, but managed to recover for a split-tie against his American opponent.

Negotiations between the two parties have been going on since the bout in December, with the plan to stage a rematch later this year.

However, Fury has since opted to pull out of the rematch having informed the WBC of his decision earlier this week, with WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán confirming that the fight is off on social media.

He tweeted: "Wilder vs Fury is officially not happening next.

"The WBC has received communications as our process and while Wilder confirmed its willingness to fight the rematch, Fury will take on another fight with expectations to do rematch at a later date."

And now Warren, Fury's co-promoter, has claimed that ESPN's broadcasting agreement which the 30-year-old recently agreed in an £80m deal with American promoter Top Rank, has seen any proposed fight with Wilder called off for the time being.

Fury's deal with Top Rank will see his next two fights broadcast on ESPN as the fighter looks to crack the American boxing market since his fight with Wilder.

But Warren hopes that a bout between Fury and Wilder can be rescheduled for either September or October.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Wednesday, Warren said: "It's not our doing. ESPN and Top Rank want to give Tyson an exposure fight in the States first and then have the Wilder fight afterwards.

"It's unfortunate but we're hoping to get a fight in September or October.

“I’m hoping that this Wilder fight does go on. I’m very disappointed that we’re not going straight to it but it’s beyond our control.

“[The next fight] will be against whoever we can agree with. At the moment, we’re waiting for the list of fighters, and once we’ve got it we’ll pick the opponent.

“He [Fury] needs to get out. He’s not fought since December and I don’t think we’ll get him in the ring until June.”
