WWE caused a bit of a social media stir a few weeks back when they posted a tweet stating that several NXT superstars were backstage at Monday Night Raw.

All four of those superstars ended up debuting on the main roster that very night, and to this very moment have not lost on Raw or SmackDown since.

Two of those stars though did not make an appearance this week even though they were announced - Tommaso Ciampa and Gargano.

The duo who used to go under the name 'D.I.Y' during their run in NXT defeated both The Revival and The Bar in separate matches last week and Gargano was advertised for a singles match with Cesaro, with Ciampa and Sheamus in their respective corners.

It didn't happen though, with Gargano only seen in a non-talking segment on Raw with one of his mentors, Shawn Michaels, with Ciampa nowhere to be seen.

We may have now found out the reason as to why there was no on-screen appearances from the NXT Champion.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, per Ringside News, Ciampa is currently out of action with an undisclosed injury.

There was a spot on SmackDown last week where Sheamus seemed to land on Ciampa's knee in a bad way after a sunset flip powerbomb, but backstage news reported that both parties were 'fine'.

It is a worry though considering he was out for the better part of a year in 2017 after tearing his knee ligaments, which led to a blood feud with Gargano, however they seem to be on better terms now.

The Observer also stated that Ciampa intended to get his injury fixed after he's competed at NXT TakeOver: New York in early April, which suggests that he was hurt before the incident with the Celtic Warrior last Tuesday.

With his latest block of NXT matches already filmed in advance, Ciampa will be able to take a bit of a break from in-ring action as WWE can't afford for him to miss what could be his farewell match in the NXT brand at TakeOver.
