Chelsea fans have been through a rollercoaster of emotions so far in 2019.

The start of the year didn’t treat them kindly, with only a single Premier League win to show from three outings before ending January with a 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

February was worse yet, as the Blues were thrashed 6-0 by Manchester City, knocked out of the FA Cup, and kept from winning a maiden trophy under Maurizio Sarri, all within 14 days.

While a disastrous two months has seen them slip to sixth on the league table, Chelsea can take some comfort from reaching the Europa League round of 16.

Their 2-0 victory over Tottenham last time out also suggests they have plenty more to offer than suggested by other results of late.

This ongoing string of contradicting performances has turned up the heat on Sarri and a handful of his players, but - at least among fans - none more so than Jorginho.

The £57 million signing was brought in to be the orchestrator of ‘Sarri-ball’ in midfield - a role where he flourished during three years under his current boss at Napoli.

However, while the Italian helped Chelsea keep possession just as well as he did for the Partenopei, his new supporters aren’t entirely keen on his output.

Jorginho has now made the most passes in a single season without registering an assist, which effectively sums up why his own fans booed him against Malmo and then Tottenham.

Reflecting on his current status among sections of the Stamford Bridge faithful, the deep-lying midfielder doesn’t intend to alter his style play despite being aware of their disapproval.

“Of course, in this day and age everything reaches you quickly,” he told ESPN Brasil, via Goal.

“With technology everything is very fast.

“The important thing is to know how to deal with the situation. I remained calm because I know this is what fans are like, if you’re not winning they will complain and they have the right to do so.”

Surely Jorginho deserves respect for not only accepting the fans’ frustration, but believing in what his natural style of play can offer.

While some of the vitriol must derive from Chelsea fans wanting N’Golo Kante to play in arguably his best position, Sarri has made no secret of his preferred option at the base of midfield.

His stance in unlikely to waver and, as Jorginho implied, the Blues’ focus must be on securing Champions League qualification, either through clawing their way back into the top four or winning the Europa League.
