Mohamed Salah endured a tough afternoon as Liverpool were held to a goalless draw against Everton on Sunday.

The Egyptian forward missed a handful of chances to score and he’s now netted just one goal in his past seven matches in all competitions.

His problems in front of goal have coincided with Liverpool letting their grasp slip on first place in the Premier League.

Having drawn four out of their past six matches, the Reds are now a point behind Manchester City in the title race.

The Liverpool Echo rated Salah’s performance in the Merseyside derby five out of 10, writing: “Lost the ball horribly with practically his first touch which set the tone. Twice missed chances when sent clear, and while he kept going, this wasn't great.”

It’s a real worry that Liverpool’s most dangerous player has lost his form just as the season has reached its most crucial stage.

Without him scoring, it’s hard to see how Liverpool can regain their grip on the title race.

Shearer: Salah is lacking confidence

The 26-year-old was the focus of Alan Shearer’s column and the former Newcastle United striker believes Salah is suffering from a confidence crisis.

"Mo Salah's form has to be a huge concern for Liverpool right now," Shearer wrote.

“Salah seems to be lacking confidence and is showing a few signs of nerves. And that is really worrying for the Reds at such a crucial time of the season.

“He has now scored only once in his last seven games in all competitions.

“And having been subbed in the stalemate at Manchester United last week, he could easily have been taken off early again at Everton yesterday.”

Shearer went on to say that Salah has become too predictable.

“Defenders all know what Salah wants to do now... cut in from the right to shift on to his left foot. And he is also not influencing the big games like he once was," he added.

“In the two Merseyside derbies and eight league games Liverpool have played against the top-six sides so far this season, he has scored only once - and that was a penalty in a 5-1 win over Arsenal.”

Even worse for Salah is that Sergio Aguero is showing how to do it at the business end of the season.

The Manchester City striker has scored eight goals in his last six league matches, his goals helping Pep Guardiola’s side leapfrog Liverpool.
