Nathan Aspinall has won his first major PDC title after defeating Rob Cross 11-5 in the final of the UK Open.‘The Asp’ claimed the £100,000 winners cheque by triumphing in the tournament, becoming the first player since 2012 to win a televised ranking event whilst being ranked outside the top 32 on the Order of Merit.The 27-year-old entered the tournament as 34th in the world, but after his stellar performances, he is now ranked at number 16 in the Order of Merit.The standout moment for Aspinall came in the final, with an extraordinary 170 checkout to end the contest and crown him the winner.‘The Asp’ held his nerve to deliver a grandstand finish and was visibly elated, holding his hands on his head before embracing the classy Cross.The final itself was largely dominated by Aspinall, taking an early 5-2 lead in the contest.Cross, who headed into this tournament as the world number two, did fight back to within one leg and had the chance to even it up at five apiece.However, he missed that chance and Aspinall went on to make it 6-4, before winning five of the following six legs to take home the trophy.Watch Aspinall's incredible winning checkout in the video below.

It wasn’t just in the final where Aspinall was turning heads, though.

He defeated Ross Smith in the quarters, before ending Gerwyn Price’s impressive 20-match unbeaten run in a close encounter that ended 11-9 in favour of the Stockport-born competitor.

Cross had overcome Josh Payne and Michael Smith respectively to find himself in the final, but did not produce his best darts on the biggest stage.

Aspinall will be hoping that his impressive performances during the UK Open will be a springboard to even greater success and a lot more titles.
