There are very few football superstitions more famous than touching the 'This is Anfield' sign at Liverpool's home stadium.

The message stands above the door in Anfield's tight tunnel and is the last thing players will read before emerging ahead of kickoff.

When new signings arrive at the club, it's often tradition for them to touch the sign as many believe it brings good luck. Footballers are a superstitious bunch, aren't they?

Many legends have been pictured doing so over the years, including Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

More recently, the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been caught on camera as well.

But there's one man, who during his time with Liverpool, has refused to touch the sign. Manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German has been in charge at Anfield for three and a half years now but has recently revealed that he hasn't touched the famous sign during his tenure.

The Reds boss was recently doing a special stadium tour with Copa90 and MLB star Francisco Lindor when the trio arrived in the tunnel.

"This is one of the most important things here. You can touch it," Klopp told his guests, per the Mirror.

But, while showing them the sign, he didn't touch it himself and went on to explain that he never has before a match while managing Liverpool, because of his own superstitions.

"I touched it while I was at Dortmund. I played here in a friendly and we lost 5-0," Klopp continued.

"I really think that I will start touching it in the moment when we have won something. It is a really big thing and this is a really big club the history is like a mountain."

So, it sounds like Klopp doesn't feel that he's earned the right to touch the sign yet, despite turning Liverpool's side from a team challenging for the top four to genuine Premier League title contenders.

But if Liverpool can win their first title this season, he'll finally be able to become part of the famous Anfield tradition.
