Real Madrid sunk to a whole new low with their 4-1 defeat to Ajax this week.
Having been dumped out of the Copa del Rey by Barcelona and effectively exiting the La Liga title race against the same opponents, all their hopes rested on Champions League success.
However, their 1,000-day reign in Europe came to a devastating end when they threw away the 2-1 advantage they claimed at the Amsterdam Arena.
Hakim Ziyech and David Neres completely turned the game on its head with two goals in the opening 18 minutes, only for Dusan Tadic to send the travelling fans into delirium at 3-0.
Marco Asensio offered a brief moment of hope for Los Blancos, but that was quickly neutralised when Lasse Schone scored a barnstorming free-kick.

Real plunge into fresh crisis
Real fans were calling for the head of Santiago Solari, booed players like Gareth Bale off the pitch and there were even cries for Jose Mourinho to take over.
It sums up the state of disarray amongst the supporter-base right now and Spanish publication Marca wanted to gauge fan opinion with a survey on Tuesday night.
The interactive article allowed fans to answer a multitude of questions from which players they thought they could rely on and who they thought was responsible for their terrible form.
Fans fill in 'crisis survey'
Supporters thought 'the planning from those upstairs' was most responsible for the crisis, while voters thought they couldn't count on Gareth Bale and Mariano Diaz next season.
However, perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the survey was assessing who Real Madrid fans wanted as their next manager and marquee signing.
And despite all the chants about Mourinho, it was Mauricio Pochettino that topped the vote to replace Solari, earning 35% of over 8,000 votes at the time of writing.
Mourinho came in second place, followed by Jurgen Klopp, Massimiliano Allegri, Joachim Low and Antonio Conte.
As for the replacement to Cristiano Ronaldo, there was an overwhelming winner and Kylian Mbappe has garnered over 3,000 votes in less than 24 hours.
Pochettino and Mbappe wanted
Eden Hazard comes in at a distant second despite being constantly linked with a Madrid switch, while Neymar, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah are barely in contention.
So, the supporters want Mbappe leading their frontline and Pochettino barking orders from the sidelines.
However, to say those requests are ambitious would be putting things mildly and Florentino Perez would seriously struggle to meet these demands.
Mbappe is the second most expensive player in history, currently plays for the team he supported as a youngster and has already turned down Los Blancos once before.
As for Pochettino, Daniel Levy would put up a serious fight against any negotiations in the summer and it's debatable whether the manager would want to leave after the stadium move.
The fans have spoken but it could fall on deaf ears.
