Real Madrid’s season has unraveled at the Bernabeu in the space of a week.

In seven days, Real lost their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg 3-0 to Barcelona, a La Liga Clasico 1-0 and have now been beaten 4-1 by Ajax to crash out of the Champions League all at home.

Two damaging exits from competitions and a loss that sees Real fall 12 points behind Barca in the league.

Their season is over and we’ve only just entered March.

There’s simply no way Santiago Solari can survive this.

It’s now a matter of when, not if, Solari is sacked.

And according to the Independent, Los Blancos have already identified their preferred target.

They’re claiming that they have “re-ignited their interest in Jurgen Klopp.”

Klopp is now ahead of both Mauricio Pochettino and Max Allegri in their shortlist.

There’s also a mention of Jose Mourinho.

The Independent claim that Mourinho “has not been completely ruled out, and still has a good relationship with president Florentino Perez and director general Jose Angel Sanchez, but there is a view at the top level of the club that the Portuguese is ‘finished.’”

Instead, the Madrid hierarchy want a manager who restores “excitement and happiness.”

And that is the main reason Real see Klopp as their number one. Perez and his officials have been hugely impressed with his work at Liverpool, leading them to the Champions League final last season.

Of course, the club’s chiefs will need to try and persuade the German to leave Merseyside for Madrid.

Klopp has already turned the Bernabeu club down before and seems to be building something special at Liverpool.

But will he turn down Madrid’s approaches for a second time?
