Real Madrid's season is all but over.

After back-to-back defeats last week to Barcelona, which knocked them out of the Copa del Rey and also effectively ended their La Liga hopes, Real Madrid's last chance of silverware was in the Champions League.

They were in a good position to advance to the quarter-finals after beating Ajax 2-1 in Amsterdam in the first leg.

However, they suffered of the worst defeats in club history in the second leg at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid were outclassed by their opponents as they were beaten 4-1.

Santiago Solari's future has been called into question after the results in the past few weeks.

The Spaniard only took over in October but, according to Goal, he won't be in the job much longer.

They report that Real Madrid have already decided that Santiago Solari will not be in charge of the club for the 2019-20 season and are mulling over exactly when to fire the Argentine.

Goal also add that those high up in the Madrid food chain were utterly dismayed at the team and Solari after their defeat to Ajax.

They were not happy with Solari's team selection over the past week, as well as how he decided against making significant changes to the starting XI despite the back-to-back losses to Barca.

Despite his future looking bleak, Solari confirmed after the loss to Ajax that he will not resign as manager.

"I did not come to the club in such a difficult moment to give up," Solari said, per the BBC.

"What we must do is remain as calm as possible in such a difficult moment and take it on with the best character.

"Madrid is bigger than any of us - it always returns - and returns even stronger."
