Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is closing in on being named the next permanent Manchester United manager.

The Norwegian has transformed the club in the space of just 17 games after taking over from Jose Mourinho back in December.

United have won 14 of those 17 games, with the 2-0 loss at home to Paris Saint-Germain the only blemish on Solskjaer's record so far.

The Red Devils even managed to avenge that loss on Wednesday night when they managed to overturn the deficit to win 3-1 in the French capital with virtually a reserve team.

It really has been a miraculous turnaround.

As such, the links to both Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane have grown scarce in recent weeks.

Solskjaer's official announcement seems like a formality now and the Mirror are even reporting what the Norwegian will get as salary when he takes the reins full-time.

The 46-year-old will pocket £7.5m-a-year, half the amount Mourinho was earning before he was given the boot.

Manchester City's Pep Guardiola brings in a cool £15.3m-a-year, making him the highest paid in the Premier League.

Solskjaer's deal will see him second on that list, just ahead of West Ham's Manuel Pellegrini and Jurgen Klopp on £7m-a-year.

Not bad for his first elite-level managerial gig.

The response from the players in interviews to Solskjaer's impact at the club has been telling, with Luke Shaw saying after the win over PSG: “We all love Ole and we love the job he’s done so far.

"I don’t think I need to say much after all these results, it looks certain [Solskjaer will get the job].

“We’re enjoying everything that’s going on at the moment and the results have shown that.

“That’s nine away wins in a row now and that shows what Ole and his staff have done. Long may that continue.

“It sums up what the mood is like in the camp now and that’s a big plus for the boss and what he’s done in this period of time and how much he’s changed things around. We’ve got so much more to look forward to.”

If Solskjaer can maintain his start to life as United boss, he'll match Mourinho's salary in no time at all.
