We already know four of the eight teams who will compete in the quarter-final of the Champions League this season.

Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Porto and Manchester United booked their place in the last eight of the competition this week.

This time next week, we’ll know the four teams that will join them.

Manchester City hold the advantage in their last-16 tie against Schalke after beating the German side 3-2 in Gelsenkirchen last month.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid will try to hold on to a 2-0 lead against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus.

Barcelona’s tie against Lyon is finely poised at 0-0 ahead of the return leg in Spain.

And Bayern Munich and Liverpool also played out a goalless draw when they met at Anfield on February 19.

Mourinho: Man City have been lucky

They promise to be an enthralling set of ties and Jose Mourinho has predicted the outcome of all four.

The Portuguese coach believes that Man City will have no problems against Schalke but aimed a jibe at Pep Guardiola’s side by claiming they have been “so lucky” with their draws in Europe.

City were drawn in a group with Lyon, Shakhtar Donetsk and Hoffenheim, where they won four out of six matches, and were then matched with Schalke, who have struggled in the Bundesliga this season, in the round of 16.

And Mourinho believes fortune has been on their side.

“Man City is having a very good season,” he told RT. “But honestly, they are so lucky in the draws. Even in their group phase, and now the tie against Schalke.

“I would say they beat Schalke and they will get Porto or Ajax in the quarter-final.”

Interesting stuff, Jose.

The former Manchester United coach also believes that Liverpool, considered one of the favourites to win the competition, will exit at the hands of Bayern.

“I see Bayern, in spite of an up-and-down season, I see them now on the up,” Mourinho continued.

“With the morale of Borussia Dortmund losing consecutively and then recovering positions in the Bundesliga and I see Bayern as the team that can score goals.

“If I had to choose - I wouldn’t bet on it - but if I had to choose, I would choose Bayern.”

Mourinho believes Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid will progress against Juventus but wouldn’t be surprised if the Italian’s produce a comeback.

“I wouldn’t be surprised with a huge comeback from the home team. So if Juve gets a 2-0, a 4-1, I wouldn’t be surprised,” he went on.

“But honestly if a team can cope with the pressure, if a team can defend a lead, if a team can defensively control the game, Atletico is a good example of a team that can do that.

“So if I had to choose, I would still choose Atletico Madrid but it wouldn’t be a surprise for me if Juve turns it around."

And Mourinho fully expects Barcelona to defeat Lyon.

He added: “[Lyon] can go with the same kind of mentality as Ajax did, as Man United did.

“I think it would be like a tornado in European football if Barcelona were the third big team to be knocked out. And at home, it would be a tornado.

“I don’t believe that Messi and these fellows are going to lose this opportunity so for me, Barcelona has to win.”
